Deciding To Replace Or Repair
Having your air conditioning system break down in our Texas heat is no fun, but we can help identify issues early through our Maintenance Programs. Just like your car, your air conditioning unit must have scheduled maintenance done so that it stays in good working order throughout the entire year. Sometimes, however, repairs do become necessary, such as recharging the refrigerant, and being able to do this preventably helps you budget accordingly.
At some point, when expenses and age of your air conditioning system exceed the benefits of replacing your unit, THC can get you into a new and more energy efficient HVAC.
New AC Sales & Installation
If you decide to replace, we will do a load calculation, which is a computer printout showing how big a system you need and why.
New variable-speed air conditioners’ compressors operate at different speeds depending on the need for cooling. Rather than being only 100% on or 100% off they have several different speeds. This allows the AC to cool your home at lower speeds for longer periods of time while still having the higher speeds for when the outdoor temps get really high.
Air conditioning is measured by the ton, which is the cooling power of a one-ton block of ice melting in 24 hours. An oversized system cost more, but they also do their cooling work too quickly, which means more frequent on/off cycles, wearing out components and gobbling electricity. Plus, they don’t have a chance to effectively dehumidify the air. Likewise an undersized unit will never achieve its peak optimization, ends up consuming too much energy, and runs too long causing additional wear and tear on parts.
THC Will Help Your Decide When To Replace vs Repair
- Is your heating or air conditioning system more than 10 years old or not keeping your comfortable?
- Is your air conditioner, furnace or boiler running a lot?
- Are you paying more than you think you should in energy bills?
If your answer is yes to any one of these questions, replacing your old air conditioning system may better help heat and cool your home while overall saving you money in repairs and energy expenses. Heating and cooling is the biggest energy consumer in most homes here in Texas, accounting for more than 40 percent your home’s energy bills.
